Most flower preservation artists have limited availability.  Floral preservation is as time-consuming process and due to the time-sensitive nature of flowers, artists have may have weekly or monthly caps on new orders.  Planning and booking ahead will ensure your favorite artist can accept your flowers on your date.

As inflation increases and artist gain more experience and client demand, prices for flower preservation will increase.  Very often couples will have a wedding date months or even a year or more before their wedding.  Most artists will increase their pricing at least once a year.  Typically, placing a deposit with an artist will reserve your date and lock in your pricing.  This means if you wait a whole year before booking your floral preservation, most likely you will lose on some potential savings.  Many artists also charge a late fee or rush fee for last minute order so booking ahead will definitely save you some money!

Whether you are dropping off locally or overnight shipping, there are logistics that go into making sure your artist receives your flowers in good condition and in a timely manner.  Booking your artist ahead of time can help you better plan local drop-off (if they are local, a friend or family member traveling in their direction can help you drop off) or better prepare you for overnight shipping (there are supplies and procedures involved).  The last thing you want as a bride is to be scrambling on your wedding day about where or when to drop off or mail your bouquet.

It is very likely that planning your floral preservation ahead of time will result in a better product than if you booked last minute.  Better logistical planning will most likely result in your artist receiving your flowers in a fresher state, which will in turn result in a better end product.  What if you book last minute and were able to book the artist you like plus drop off in a timely manner?  Artists still need certain supplies and resources for drying flowers.  These supplies could range from silica gel to space in a flower press to sheer time and manpower to properly dry your florals.  Reserving ahead of time will not only help you, but help ensure that your artist has enough supplies (and time!) to give your fresh florals the attention needed for the best possible product.
